Peter Steinberger, who has since joined OpenAI, revealed that he and OpenClaw board member Dave Morin attempted to negotiate with Anthropic to delay the change. Steinberger told Business Insider that they informed Anthropic that many users had signed up specifically because of OpenClaw, and that cutting them off would represent a significant loss. Despite their efforts, the best they achieved was approximately a one-week delay, with Steinberger noting on social media that Anthropic attempted to “bury the news on a Friday night.”
